Hunger Action Month Calendar

September is Hunger Action Month
September is Hunger Action Month, a time when Arkansas Foodbank Network and Feeding America, the largest nonprofit providers of emergency food aid in Arkansas and in the U.S., ask everyone to take action to fight hunger in their communities, all month long.
The month began Wednesday with the United Way kickoff event at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. Agencies that benefit from the campaign, including Arkansas Foodbank Network, shared music, food and information at booths touting the drive to raise funds for charity.
Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to join a movement that has a lasting impact on efforts end hunger. Whether it’s by advocating and raising awareness, making donations, or volunteering, individuals can find the way that’s right for them to make a difference during Hunger Action Month.
What is "30 Ways in 30 Days"?
"30 Ways in 30 Days" is the overall campaign for Hunger Action Month 2010. Everyone is encouraged to take action, and each day, a new “way” to take action will be featured at www.hungeractionmonth.org. Food banks' local “30 Ways in 30 Days” calendars will be available on that site, enabling the public to learn about opportunities to get involved in your community.
What is "My Way"?
During Hunger Action Month, Foodbank supporters are being asked to take a "My Way" Pledge, designating their primary way to help. There are five broad "Ways" categories: Advocate, Organize, Experience, Donate, and Volunteer. Examples of ways within each category will be posted online at www.hungeractionmonth.org (2010 content will go live August 4th, 2010), giving individuals - based on their own strengths, interests and personality - a framework to designate their “way” of making a difference.
In Arkansas, Arkansas Foodbank Network is asking everyone to join its Facebook page, to volunteer with Foodbank or its 400 local agencies that serve the hungry directly, contribute to food pantries and remember that Arkansas is the third hungriest state per capita in the U.S., and No. 1 in childhood hunger.

Hunger in America 2010
Learn more about the local and national findings of Hunger in America 2010, the largest study ever conducted about domestic hunger.
Almost half a million Arkansans live in poverty.
The Arkansas Foodbank Network has been working since 1984 to eliminate hunger in Arkansas by providing nutritious food to those in need. In 2009, we distributed 14.2 million pounds: 11.6 million to our more than 400 member agencies in 33 Arkansas counties and 2.6 million to the state's other 5 Feeding America food banks. That's enough to fill up 473 semi-trailers. If you lined up those semis, they would stretch 5 miles! We handle 57,000 pounds of food per day. Ninety-three percent of everything the Foodbank receives is allocated to programs, enabling our agencies to serve about 23,000 hungry Arkansans in any given week.
Our Vision
Creating a community where no one has to go hungry
Our Mission
The Arkansas Foodbank Network is a cornerstone of hunger relief that acquires and distributes, through local and national partnerships, large quantities of food and other resources to hungry people.
