Chili Fights in the Heights

Chili Fights in the Heights is a family friendly event put on in conjunction with the Heights Neighborhood Association, Heights Business Association and Hat Club for Men of Little Rock (along with the help of a few fun oriented citizens) with the hope of bringing the community together, showing off our unique area of town and generating a charitable donation for the Arkansas Foodbank. Last year the event raised $15,000, enough money to provide 75,000 meals to hungry families!

More information about this event can be found on the Chili Fights website.

Take a Run at Hunger 5k

In June 2015, Performance Foodservice - Little Rock held its Inaugural Family 5K and 1 Mile Walk aimed at two worthwhile goals - promoting health and fitness among its associates and raising money for the Arkansas Foodbank Summer Cereal Drive.

Appropriately enough, the theme for the day was "Take a Run at Hunger," and that's exactly what 21 associates and their families did, raising more than $700 and collecting cereal at the event. With children home for the summer without access to school-provided meals, cereal is a critical need for most food banks across the country during the summer months.

This year, we are opening our 5K to the public! 100% of all race entry fees will benefit the Arkansas Foodbank / KTHV Channel 11 Summer Cereal Drive. Your donation provides hungry families in Arkansas with non-perishable breakfast items that are both nutritious and kid-friendly. Your donations help provide healthy breakfast options for children and families in central Arkansas who would otherwise go without the most important meal of the day - breakfast. To register or donate for the race, go here.

Stamp Out Hunger

This year will mark the 24th National Letter Carrier Food Drive, the largest food drive in the nation. The concept behind the drive is simple: leave non-perishable food donations at your mailbox—and the National Association of Letter Carriers takes care of the rest. Food collected from the drive in Pulaski County will help benefit the Arkansas Foodbank. Many volunteers will be needed to help sort and box donated food.  Shifts are available from 5:00pm-10:00pm.   For information or to volunteer, call Polly Deems at 501.569.4320.

Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month (September) is the Feeding America® network’s nationwide awareness campaign designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. The campaign brings attention to the reality of food insecurity in the United States and promotes ways for individuals across the U.S. to get involved in the movement to help end hunger.

Hunger Action Day™, which is the first Thursday in September, (this year it will be September 3), is a day where efforts across the country are focused for greater impact. Hunger exists in every county in the U.S., affecting 49 million Americans including 16 million children. The Feeding America network believes that hunger IS solvable and we’re leading the fight to end it. You can help by mobilizing your community through any of the actions below. As individuals, charities, businesses and government, we all have a role to play in getting food to our neighbors in need.
